Independent News – Autumn 2020

Retirement planning matters during these unprecedented times – and much more besides.

As summer draws to a close amid a mini heatwave, we are pleased to bring you our Autumn 2020 magazine.

As the world continues to work out how to live with the COVID-19 pandemic, many will agree that the new normal requires new thinking. This is particularly so in the area of retirement planning and accordingly, this issue focuses mainly on retirement matters.

Saving into a pension is one of the most tax-efficient ways to save for your retirement. Not only do pensions enable you to grow your retirement savings largely free of tax, but they also provide tax relief on the contributions you make. We look at the various pension allowances that you need to be aware of and help you understand how to make the most of them.

Statistics show that the number of couples deciding to divorce in later life is on the rise. Splitting with a spouse in your forties, fifties or later can bring with it many complications. What’s the reason for the boom in so-called ‘silver splitters’? Read our magazine to find out.

We also explain why many people are now considering staggered or flexible working. It can suit some individuals who have caring responsibilities or health issues, or those thinking about retiring in the next few years.

The COVID-19 crisis has also led to families becoming more open about their finances, and this includes the need to discuss Wills and inheritance. We take a look at this issue in more depth.

There’s a whole host of other articles too, which we hope you find both interesting and useful. As always, we are here to help and advise on any financial matters, so please do keep in touch.
